Today I attended the Innovative farmers conference in London Ontario. There were some excellent speakers from around the world speaking about their preferred production methods. One topic that was recurring was the threat of Slugs in a No-Till System.
This topic reminded me to post the following video I made this fall during a fall scout.

Below is the yield map for the farm that I made the video in.

Slug Damage in 2010 Corn

[gview file=”http://www.realfarmer.ca/wp-content/uploads/2011/02/Slug-Damage-in-2010-Corn.pdf”]

RED POINTS = BELOW BREAK EVEN, YELLOW = BREAK EVEN-10 YEAR AVERAGE, GREEN= ABOVE AVERAGE

The slug damage turned out to be patchy in the farm and didn’t cause significant yield losses that would warrant any concern.  It was great to see the slugs acting in a way I had not seen before. The more we can learn about slugs the better.  You will see many posts on my blog in the future about Slugs.
